I was born in 1978 in the small, picturesque city of Lier in Belgium. The city is often called "little Bruges" because it's really a lovely town with a nice, unique atmosphere. After my studies in communication sciences at the University of Antwerp, I started to express myself as a professional street theatre artist and won several awards for my productions.
Several years later, my life was turned upside down due to serious health challenges. The good thing was that this gave me the opportunity to discover what really matters in life, which is certainly not pursuing awards just to show the world you're a good artist! This turn around gave me time and space to reinvent myself and play more music.
The fact that I could not read notes or never officially learned to play the piano made it really exciting . . . I gave my first piano concert in May 2008. The special thing about this concert was that all the people were invited to place themselves comfortably on a soft mattress and under a warm blanket for a completely relaxed and different listening experience. All the people liked it very much, which made me very happy and grateful.
Since then, I have played many more times in Belgium. I gave concerts in Spain and the Netherlands too. It's my wish to travel with my music to many other countries, as well, to simply share. My debut album Into resonance was released in 2011. The album was recognized by the number one Belgian classical radio station Klara as music that compares to famous composers like Wim Mertens and Arvo Pärt, just to give you an idea. And, please understand that, as a musician, it's not at all my intention to sound like somebody else.
In fact, in preparation for my debut album, I didn't listen to any music for several years to keep my musicality clean from external influences and to be able to really find "my own song." It was only after the release of Into resonance that I rediscovered the joy of listening to other people's music again, which was really wonderful!
Meanwhile, I continue to create and practice new music, sing, give concerts, give workshops and provide one-on-one coaching; and I have discovered the joy of playing together with other musicians, as well.
My very first stage experience!
